Understanding what is happening can make it easier to identify the right kind of help.
Hoarding behaviours, chronic disorganisation and overwhelming property conditions are not all the same. Each person's circumstances, belongings, health, home and support needs are different.
This page provides general information and links to established organisations. It does not provide a diagnosis, therapy, medical advice, legal advice or regulated care.
Understanding
Hoarding disorder is a recognised mental health condition involving persistent difficulty discarding possessions, regardless of their apparent value. The resulting accumulation can restrict the use of rooms and affect health, safety and everyday life.
Not everyone living in an overwhelming property has hoarding disorder. Only an appropriately qualified healthcare professional can assess or diagnose a mental health condition.
Practical property support may help restore access, improve safety and make spaces usable, but it does not replace appropriate clinical or therapeutic support.
Understanding
Chronic disorganisation describes persistent difficulty organising time, belongings, paperwork or everyday tasks. It may affect quality of life, continue over a long period and return despite repeated attempts to become organised.
A chronically disorganised home may sometimes look similar to a property affected by hoarding, but the reasons, emotional attachment to belongings and appropriate forms of support may be different.
Chronic disorganisation may exist alongside ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, trauma, physical illness, brain injury or hoarding behaviours. None of these conditions automatically causes it.
You can also read more about how we work in hoarding support and in our Practical Guides.
Practical support
Practical support can focus on restoring essential rooms and access routes, sorting belongings, cleaning, managing waste lawfully and developing straightforward ways to maintain progress.
Some people need a one-off property reset. Others may benefit from several visits or longer-term practical support.
Outdoor Indoor Cleaning Co Ltd provides practical property support. We do not diagnose conditions, provide therapy, offer regulated personal care or replace health, housing, social-care or safeguarding professionals.
